10 x Improvising on Bach

The dance performance 'Mitten wir im Leben sind/Bach6Cellosuiten' was a guest at deSingel from 16 to 20 January 2019. This dance performance brought together two greats from dance and chamber music: choreographer Anna Teresa De Keersmaeker and cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras.

Within the framework of a long-term collaboration with deSingel on participation, De Veerman brought 10 young people together to improvise on these cello suites. Therefor De Veerman gathered 10 young people from dance studio Arlekino to improvise on these cello suites.

They asked these young ladies to become acquainted with this music themselves and to work with it. The assignment was: "Improvise for one minute on a self chosen fragment". Some danced to music played live (performance: Katelijn Van Kerckhoven), others worked with a recording of their own preference. They were accompanied in this process by Tijl Bossuyt.

I developed a concept for filming the dance improvisations in Antwerp and edited the material into a dance film that could be seen in the corridors of deSingel, before and after Rosas' performance.
