“I do dance pieces not to show. It’s not to make a piece. It’s to share what we can do together. Do what you love and share it.”
Conversation with dancer and choreographer Malou Airaudo (1948, Marseille) in Wuppertal, also professor of modern dance at Folkwang University of The Arts (Essen, Germany).
After Engagements with the Ballet Russes de Monte Carlo and the „Ballet Théâtre Contemporain“ in Amiens, she worked in New York City with Manuel Alum and Paul Sanasardo in the early 1970s, where she met Pina Bausch, who hired her in 1973 for the Tanztheater Wuppertal, which she had founded. Airaudo became one of the defining dancers of Tanztheater Wuppertal. She performed in a variety of Bausch pieces: „Fritz“; „Iphigenie auf Tauris“; „Kindertotenlieder“; „Orpheus und Eurydike“; „Café Müller“; „Bandoneon,“ and danced the solo in „Le Sacre du Printemps.“ She also worked with Carolyn Carlson and founded the group „La Main“ in Paris together with Jacques Patarozzi, Dominique Mercy, Helena Pikon and Dana Sapiro.
